We do not ask you for personal information
There is no account system, no newsletter signup and no contact form on this site. We never ask for your name, address, phone number or payment details. If you email us, we hold that message only for as long as it takes to answer you.
The calculators run in your browser
Every calculator on this site computes locally in your browser. Appliance selections, generator sizes and checklist progress are never transmitted to us. The readiness checklist saves your progress in your browser's local storage so it survives a page reload; clearing your browser data removes it, and it is never readable by us.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, our web host records standard request logs, which typically include the IP address, the page requested, the time, the referring page and the browser user agent. These are used to operate and secure the site.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and which are not. It sets cookies and collects usage data subject to Google's own privacy policy. Browser-level do-not-track and ad-blocking settings that prevent it from loading are respected by design, because the tag simply does not run.
Advertising and outbound links
This site contains affiliate links and may earn a commission when you buy through them. Advertising links pass through a redirect on this domain and then to the advertiser. The advertiser and its affiliate network may set their own cookies once you arrive on their site, under their own privacy policies, which we do not control.
Directory listings link to third-party business websites, mapping services and social profiles. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy applies rather than ours.
Maps
Interactive maps load map tiles from OpenStreetMap. Loading a map means your browser requests those tiles directly from that service, which will see your IP address as part of the ordinary mechanics of fetching an image.
Children
This site is intended for a general adult audience and does not knowingly collect information from children.
